The route
Seven stops, one afternoon
A loop through the heart of Pest led by someone who lives here, finishing at the building everyone came to see.
St. Stephen's Basilica
Budapest's largest church, and a good place to start getting your bearings.
Elizabeth Square
One of downtown's green centres, named for the empress the city never forgot.
Vörösmarty tér
The square at the top of Váci utca. Cafés, benches, and people watching.
Danube Promenade
The view every postcard is trying to copy: the river, and the Buda Hills across it.
Hungarian Academy of Sciences
A grand nineteenth century palace right on the riverbank.
Liberty Square
One of the city's most photographed squares, surrounded by embassies and history.
The Parliament Building
The finale. Budapest's most iconic building, up close.
