Fuse vs a student dorm vs a private flat: the real monthly cost in Budapest and Riga

A university dorm is the cheapest place to live in Budapest (about €100 to €200 a month) and Riga (about €85 to €525), if you get a place: rooms are usually shared and places go by points, need or first come. A room in a private flat costs about €300 a month in both cities, plus utilities and a deposit, and you find it yourself. Fuse starts at €380 in Budapest and €250 in Riga, all-inclusive with utilities, Wi-Fi and furniture, and you book online from abroad without a viewing.

Is a university dorm cheaper than Fuse?

Yes, usually. Dorms cost about €100 to €200 a month in Budapest and €85 to €525 in Riga, but rooms are often shared, places are limited and allocated by points, need or first come, and many go to the university's own students first.

How much is a room in a private flat in Budapest or Riga?

About €300 a month in both cities, by the universities' own guides (Semmelweis for Budapest, RSU for Riga). Utilities and internet usually come on top, and landlords ask for a deposit.

Rent, utilities (electricity, water, heating) and fast Wi-Fi in one monthly price, a furnished room and a linen set at check-in. On top you pay a €295 membership fee once and a deposit. In Budapest a fair use rule applies to utilities above €70 a month.
